Almost everything in RECLAIM lives only on your own device. There are no ads, nothing is sold, and there is no analytics or tracking of your behaviour. A small, optional set of features (Connect, Following, and your Feed's publish/share options) send limited data to a shared backend so those features can work between devices. Sections below explain exactly what, and the real limits of how that data is protected.
The large majority of RECLAIM — your companion, trackers, journal entries, gratitude jar, memories, letters you haven't sent, trips, to-dos, kitchen inventory, and settings — is stored using your browser's local extension storage. This data is never transmitted anywhere by RECLAIM. It stays on the device you're using unless you export a backup yourself.
If you use Connect, Following, or choose to publish to your profile in Feed, the following is sent to and stored in a shared Firebase database used by all RECLAIM users:
Photos and videos you choose to publish are uploaded to Firebase Storage, a separate file-hosting service, and become accessible via an unguessable but not access-controlled link.
This backend does not use user accounts, passwords, or authentication. It relies on friend codes and device IDs being hard to guess, not on cryptographic access control. Anyone who obtained your friend code, or gained access to the underlying database directly, could potentially read data associated with it. This is an appropriate model for a small trusted group of friends. It is not appropriate for a large public launch without adding real authentication first, and you should not rely on it to protect anything sensitive.
Various features fetch data from external, independent services when you use them. Each is contacted only for the specific feature that needs it, RECLAIM does not run any of these services itself:
Each of these has its own privacy policy governing what happens to requests sent to it. RECLAIM does not control or audit their practices. Some of these services are based outside the UK, so using those features involves your request data (not your RECLAIM account data) being sent to servers in other countries as a normal part of how the internet works.
RECLAIM does not display ads, does not include any advertising or analytics SDKs, and does not sell or rent data to third parties, ever.
RECLAIM is not intended for use by anyone under 13 years old. RECLAIM does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. On first use, everyone is asked to confirm they are 13 or older before the app can be used at all. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to RECLAIM, contact us using the details below and it will be deleted.
If this policy changes materially, we'll update the effective date at the top.
